O resgate do Soul na voz de The Roots e John Legend

O álbum lançado em setembro Wake Up! do The Roots e John Legend, tem onze canções profundamente evocativas retiradas da música soul dos anos 60 e 70, Todas com tema de envolvimento, sensibilização e consciência. O álbum traz de volta canções conhecidas como "Little Ghetto Boy", de Donny Hathaway (in memorian). Wake Up! também inclui uma composição original, de John Legend "Shine", que é o protagonista do documentário próximos Waiting For Superman. 

A faixa da qual surgiu o nome do disco tem quatro estrofes, como destaca o próprio Legend. A primeira é uma tomada de posição. A segunda fala de educação, a terceira sobre saúde e a quarta sobre meio-ambiente. Não foi preciso editar nada para trazê-la ao século 21. I Can’t Write Left Handed, de Bill Withers, também está no álbum.
